Position as doctoral research fellow (PhD-stipendiat) in toxicology/ecotoxicology
available at the DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo
The position is available for a period of four years with 25% compulsory work
A 4-year PhD position in toxicology/ecotoxicology is available at the Department of Biology. The PhD candidate will be part of a strategic programme in Toxicology, which is a collaboration between the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, the Department of Biology, and the Department of Chemistry. The work will be related to research on toxicological and ecotoxicological processes leading to the production or scavenging of reactive oxygen species. The candidate will be expected to work with models for both human and environmental toxicity as well as collaborate with other researchers on the environmental chemistry of relevant substances. This will involve studies that range from mechanisms for toxicity in cellular models to whole organism studies with aquatic species.
The stipend is for a candidate to complete a Ph.D. within the field of toxicology/ecotoxicology. The position will be associated with the programmes for Neurobiology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences and Integrative Biology at the Department of Biology, but formally linked to the latter. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Professor Ketil Hylland, Department of Biology and Professor Ragnhild Paulsen, Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences.
In addition to strategic programmes, research at the Departments is organised in programmes specific to each Department. An overview of the strategic programme in Toxicology is available at http://www.bio.uio.no/forskning/emerging_research initiative/tox and the main programmes involved at http://www.farmasi.uio.no/forskning/farmakologi.html and http://www.bio.uio.no/ibg.
The applicant should hold a Cand Scient/Cand. Pharm./MSc or equivalent in biology; preferably with a specialization in toxicology, cell biology, pharmacology or ecotoxicology. Previous experience of work with the toxicology or ecotoxicology of pharmaceuticals is an advantage.
Applicants may be requested to come for an interview.
The letter of application should include a curriculum vitae with a list of published and unpublished work with a statement summarising the applicant’s scientific work and interest, certified copies of certificates, and copies of co-authored publications.
The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the research training programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Firstly, the applicants must have obtained undergraduate (Cand.mag., i.e. B.Sc. level) and postgraduate (Cand.Scient., Cand. Pharm., M.Sc., or Siv.ing., i.e. M.Sc. level) qualifications. This represents approximately five years of full time studies after completion of European Upper Secondary School/International Baccalaureate. For more information see:
http://www.matnat.uio.no/english/research/research_edu/education.html
Appointment to a research fellowship is conditional upon admission to the Faculty’s research
training programme. An approved plan for the research training must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission approved within three months.
